What Size Solar Generator Do You Need? Complete 2026 Sizing Guide

By Zynergy Engineering Team (Solar System Engineers) · 18 June 2026 · 8 min read

Choosing a solar generator starts with one number: the total wattage of the appliances you want running at the same time during an outage. Add the rated watts of each one, then add about 25% headroom for start-up surges and for whatever you buy next year.

Typical loads: LED bulb 10W, ceiling fan 75W, Wi-Fi router 15W, laptop 65W, LED TV 90W, inverter refrigerator 150–400W, washing machine 500–600W, water pump 750W, microwave 1200W, 1-ton inverter AC 1200–1800W. Six lights, three fans and a router come to roughly 300W continuous, which the 500W ZYNERGY 1KW carries with room to spare. Add two laptops and a television and you are at about 520W — which is where the 1050W 2KW model starts to make sense.

Start-up surge matters more than most buyers realise. A refrigerator compressor or a pump motor can momentarily draw two to three times its running wattage. That is what the 25% headroom is for: size a unit on continuous draw alone and it will trip the first time the compressor kicks in.

Battery capacity decides how long those loads last. Divide usable energy (kWh) by your average load (kW). The 2kWh ZYNERGY unit at a 500W load gives roughly three hours, and it recharges from solar through the day — so a daytime outage costs you almost nothing.

Finally, check the chemistry. LiFePO4 cells are rated for thousands of full cycles — the ZYNERGY units up to 8,000, roughly a decade of charging and discharging every day — against 500–800 for older lithium NMC and lead-acid designs. Every ZYNERGY generator uses LiFePO4 as standard.
